[Multifacet Services]

While we collaborate on setting up projects, we can discuss how to make the NetworkShrub concept work for developing quality ebooks--and how to market them.

Below are some initial ideas. Once we have agreed to what works, we can post a list of rules. We will add to the rules as necessary. Remember: Each editor is responsible for his/her anthology project. Rules apply to how we all use the groups and networks. Another name for rules might be policies, terms of service, logistics, what-to-do, how-to-do-it, and other such items.

Each editor should post a statement of the limits of his/her indemnity in the group collaboration. The group should decide where this statement is to reside: in the forum editor's profile, in the editor's MyPage, in the editor's profile in this forum, in an attachment of one of these places, in the project's forum or other. Links in each of these locations back to the posting are advisable. Read my statement below and I believe you will agree that posting such a statement in a private group only might not accomplish what you desire.

Rules will, except where publicly stated--usually in terms like "modified by Multifacet Services to be applied in this manner:...", apply to projects edited by Multifacet Services. Editors and their authors decide how to handle the actual projects.

Editors are welcome to use the rules and logistics posted for/by eBook Writers members, including Multifacet Services, as models of how to manage their projects. Authors and artists should understand that Multifacet Services is not responsible for other editors or their group projects and will in no way be considered part of any contract made within another editor's group.

Guest editors are welcome to begin screening for articles and authors to work with personally. Extra submissions can be considered for multiple ebooks. We can all work from one or two groups initially, then split off into individual project groups as the logistics demand. All participants, including proofreaders, may join the eBook Writers group to take advantage of the common mailing list.

Negotiations of copyright issues and actual article submissions should be made within a private group opened by the editor for the project(s). Authors may submit articles to all member editors simultaneously by joining the eBook Writers group.

Each project group is responsible for how its ebook is marketed and published. Just because the idea here is to make eBooks, there is no reason a quality ebook cannot be submitted for publication. After all, editors and writers own the copyright of an anthology. And an author or artist owns his work until he contracts with another to share the copyright. In online collaborations, a statement of agreement passed from contractor to contractee and back again and statements of each party that agreement has been received seems to constitute a contract. All parties are responsible for the consequences of that contract and its fulfillment.

Neither Multifacet Services network at Ning or the company Multifacet Services that is a division of Multifacet Solutions, and neither Valerie Coskrey nor Multifacet Solutions are part of any contract made between editors and authors and artists, and any combination thereof, except for contracts made explicitly between the entity that goes by these names and individual artists, authors, and editors participating in a group project edited by Valerie Coskrey and any services contracted by the individual or project representative (usually the editor) as determined to be a service offered by Multifacet Services. Use of this network does not constitute a contract with any of the entities of Multifacet Services. Membership in this network does not constitute a relationship with the entity Multifacet Services as an employee, subcontractor, contractor, client, employer, owner, partner or any other such contractual relationship, nor can you make agreements for the entities of Multifacet Services. You may encourage others to join, take the kinds of "ownership" of the Multifacet Services network at Ning that Ning allows to all its social network members, invite people into groups, join groups, make groups and use the network as your personal webpage, blog and forum resources. Any group or project run from a private group by any member is solely the work of that member and his collaborators and all agreements are with that member--the group creator; except as the group creator and another member contracted with Multifacet Services to create and manage a group according to the NetworkSrub concept, wherein the contract between Valerie Coskrey of Multifacet Services and the member contracting Valerie Coskrey will specify the responsible parties for the various consequences of the project and its activities.

Editors are encouraged to join the eBook Writers group and to make a private group for the projects they claim and/or join the group of a co-editor.

Although not necessary, all teacher-writers, editors, artists-illustrators and other participants are encouraged to join the group created by Valerie to jumpstart the projects called Classroom eBooks. All are also encouraged to join the Multifaceted eBooks to keep posted on Multifacet Policies and logistics for projects involving Valerie and Multifacet Services and to observe the pubic aspects of the model as it evolves.
